Wheelchair-accessible and ADA-compliant are different requests
A larger cabin is not enough to establish ADA compliance. When comparing equipment, distinguish the PolyJohn Comfort XL wheelchair-accessible model from ADA models such as the PolyJohn We’ll Care III and Satellite Freedom. Request manufacturer documentation for the model offered, including entry, maneuvering clearances, door hardware and grab bars. Two listed models, two different footprints
PolyJohn’s We’ll Care III ADA model measures 85.2 inches wide, 92.4 inches long and 92.5 inches high. It has a 32.75-inch internal door-frame width, a 60-inch interior turning circle and a 50-gallon static waste tank. The wheelchair-accessible Comfort XL measures 62 by 62 by 91 inches, with a 32-inch internal door-frame width and 33-gallon holding tank. These measurements describe specific manufacturer models, not the additional space needed for the door, approach and servicing. Confirm the assigned model before finalizing placement.
Count accessible units at each cluster
For facilities covered by the ADA standards, Section 213.2 addresses clustered portable toilets; Section 104.1.1 requires fractional scoping calculations to be rounded up. The portable-unit provision uses a 5-percent calculation at each cluster. For example, a 10-unit cluster needs one accessible unit under that calculation; a 21-unit cluster needs two. Evaluate each separate restroom location, and verify the requirements applicable to your event with the responsible authority.
The route matters as much as the restroom
Place the unit on a firm, stable surface with an accessible approach and room to operate the door. In Baytown, grass that appears workable in dry weather can become soft after rain. A step, loose gravel or a muddy detour can make an otherwise suitable cabin unusable. Keep accessible routes free of parked cars, cables, hoses and queue barriers throughout the event.
Confirm the complete layout before delivery
Share your layout, guest access needs and any venue requirements when requesting a quote. Public events and facilities may have obligations beyond a simple quantity calculation. Units used exclusively by construction personnel have a specific exception in ADA Section 203.2; that exception should not be generalized to public visitors or mixed-use sites. Handwashing access and accessible trailer options should be reviewed separately.
